Mike's Grocery List

I remember the day this photo was taken-- pretty sure it was about -25C or colder (obscenely cold, for sure)-- which explains why Lucas is bundled up with about 100 layers of blankets and clothes.  Though it doesn't look like it, Lucas used to love the walks too!

I always think of Mike while grocery shopping.  Emily and I zip out to buy weekly groceries while Lucas is at gymnastics.  Emily is motivated to help by her ability to snack-while-shopping and the fact that her turn for gymnastics is next.

Mike's perfect grocery list would read something like this...

5 boxes of Alpen cereal
3 containers of plain 1% yogurt
1 3lb bag of Macintosh apples
3 containers of frozen Old South OJ
1 loaf of Sunkist Raisin Bread
1 bunch of red grapes
1 jar of peanut butter
1 jar of Bonne Maman strawberry jam
1 pkg. extra old Wilton cheddar cheese
1 pkg. of bacon
1 bunch of basil
2- 3 tomatoes
1 garlic
1 head of romain lettuce
fresh parmesan cheese
1 flank steak from the Block & Cleaver
1 lb Cooke's French-Italien blend coffee
1 loaf of Pan Chancho's multigrain bread
1 of Pan Chancho's pain au chocolat
400g Pasta Genova's Italian prosciutto
1 small container of Pasta Genova's sun-dried tomato-garlic-olives
Measured for 2- Pasta Genova's lemon-pepper pasta

Mike loved to gather up some of these favourite things on the weekend, load them into the stroller (in, on, under Lucas) while sipping a Starbucks coffee, looking around, smiling, and taking in the day.   This was the usual routine while living right downtown.  These December days, he'd be cruising up and down the 'Princess strip' (Mike-ism), merrily buying yummy food and Christmas presents.
