I found winter last year very peaceful-- so beautiful with layers of snow on black, shadowy branches. I spent a lot of time outside with the kids, struck by the contrast between white and black. With the loss of Mike, I was deep in the moment with Lucas and Emily, lost in our little world. Our daddy crow would often swoop down and perch on a dark branch, then hop along the white snow. I found comfort in these daily images and was thankful for quiet company, with no expectations. It was in these moments of wide open space and beauty that I felt closest to Mike. Quiet, cherished remembrance in winter.
I look forward to winter again, for this reason. Hello, winter. Welcome.
