Mike was always watching Emily closely, admiring her in amazement. With more time at home, he saw her developing and changing with each passing day.
Emily is 2 today. It’s hard for me to believe. Time is a shifty creature as hours can pass so slowly, yet days blur together. Last year, when Mike was sick, Emily was always there to be cared for. That year together was a year that we never wanted to end and because of all that we endured together, is was so much more than that. It was a lifetime for us and we made it to be that way. We lived those moments with purpose—every last mundane moment. We etched in our brains small details as best we could that might otherwise have been forgotten or overlooked. We boldly tricked time.
When I think of Emily, I think of her as being permanently an infant, in my forever year with Mike. Yet time has passed and here she is, 2 years old. Mike would be so proud of this chatty, silly, happy, wonderful little girl. I mean ‘big girl’ (oops, sorry Emily—and she WILL correct you!)
As has already been said,Mike called Emily his little angel. He would also say how lucky he was as he held her and peered into her deep deep eyes.It was as though he was trying to indelibly print her image in his mind. She brought a great tranquility to Mike.
